General notes
Dedicated to St. Michael and All Angels, the current church is possibly 11th century, with a 12th century tower. A bell chamber was added in the sixteenth century and houses six bells, recently restored.
The church was desecrated by Cromwells soldiers in 1647 when much of its medieval glass was destroyed. The church served a large parish which included Arnside, Witherslack, Meathop & Ulpha.
