Top Street was one of a number of small streets located off Finsley Gate, which contained back-to-back houses. During the late 1920's and early 1930's, these streets were demolished by Burnley Corporation as part of a slum clearance programme. The other streets in this area that were demolished were Finsley Alley, Whip Street, Penny Street and Cooper Street.
