The Thorn Hotel was located at number 67 St. James's Street. It can be dated as far back as 1545, when a farm known as the Thorn was located there. The earliest date of it being run as an inn is 1792, when it was owned by William Beanland. The Hotel closed in 1965 and was demolished as part of a town centre redevelopment programme.
