General notes
The Old School House is opposite the old church at the junction of Emesgate Lane and Park Road towards the cove. It is now called "Cornerways" and is No. 65 Emesgate Lane.

On the 1st January 1859, the Lancaster Guardian advertised for a master for Silverdale National School who "must be a member of the Church of England and a communicant, and married. His wife would be required to give instruction to the girls in sewing in the afternoon.
The salary has realised in School Pence and subscriptions about £40 per annum in addition to as residence". Originally, the school was accommodated in the curate's house- it being quite common for curates to enhance their income by filling the role of village schoolmaster.
