General notes
This is an early photograph taken at the end of Abel Street where it joins onto Hebrew Road. The taller building on the right was a Pawnbrokers, which during this period was owned by John Jackson.
The Stoneyholme area of Burnley was not touched by the industrial revolution until c1870, when a large programme of development commenced. This included the construction of the buildings seen in this photograph. However, a steady decline took hold and by the 1980's all of these shops and houses lay derelict and awaiting demolition.
