General notes
Residents of Cog Lane pose for a photograph of their street. The photograph was taken near Venice Street, looking up towards Rossendale Road.
The history of Cog Lane possibly dates back to pre-historic times. It was, until the construction of Manchester Road in 1795, the main route from Burnley to Dunnockshaw and beyond. The early to mid 1800's saw little development, other than the construction of some handloom weavers' cottages. By the later part of the 19th century, the effects of industrial development had reached this part of Burnley. Terraced houses now lined this section of the lane, close to Accrington Road, in order to house the local mill workers.
