General notes

William Aspinall opened this decorator's merchants in c1886. The business was located at 7 St. James' Row, just off St. James's Street. In c1895 his son Robert joined him in the decorators' trade. However, in 1909 William died. This left a hole in the business until c1913, when Joseph Thomas, one of William's other sons, was old enough to be more involved in its running. The brothers ran it together until c1930 when Robert left the business and Joseph was left in sole charge. He ran it on his own until c1960, when the business closed. It's difficult to say which member of the family is in this photograph.
