General notes
Taken in May 1946, this is a view of Barden Lane taken from near the junction with Pratt Street looking up towards St. Andrew's Church.

Barden or Byerden Lane dates from the 15th century. It was originally an access road between Holme End and Burnley. However, locals started to use it as a thoroughfare to get to Clitheroe. The local landowners, the Barcrofts, were unhappy with people using their land as a highway and closed the lane at Pendle Bridge.

Around the turn of the 20th century, terraced houses began to line the Lane. These provided housing for the workers of the local mills, brick works and colliery.
