General notes
A picture of St. Peter's Church in Burnley which was probably drawn sometime in the mid 1800's. It was how the church and river bank would have looked had one been standing at the end of Shorey Bank. The back of the print has the name F.J. Grant who lived in the area in 1879.

A church has been located on the site of St. Peters since at least 1100. The oldest part of the current church is the tower. Its foundations are probably Norman, but the tower itself dates from c1460. The main body of the church dates from c1533. In 1789 the south aisle was added, followed in 1802 by an extension to the tower.
