The photograph shows a crowd assembled for Holy Trinity's walking day procession. Holy Trinity School can be seen in the background. Opened c1835, the school moved to its current location near St. Matthew's church in the 1970's.

Walking Days or Field Days, were, and in some towns like Warrington still are, a common site in the North West. These walking days involved the congregation of a church parading through the streets in their finest clothes and holding aloft their churchs' banner, sometimes with a brass band in tow.
