Included in this picture are the Station Master, E Crossley (who took charge in 1875 and stayed until 1898 when he was transferred to Bolton), an Inspector Cockshott from Oswaldtwistle and Inspector E Smith who was later an Outporter. Also James Addison, who worked at the Station for over 44 years, starting at age 20 as a Porter and retiring at age 65 in 1935 as Ticket Collector.

At this time railway porters would have worked a 12-14 hour day. Duties included cleaning carriages, supplying trains with clean lighted lamps and preparing and supplying foot warmers for passengers.
