Walking Days or Field Days, were, and in towns like Warrington still are, a common site in the North West. These walking days involved the congregation of a church parading through the streets in their finest clothes and holding aloft their churchs' banner, sometimes with a brass band in tow.

This field day was for Holy Trinity Church. The large building in the background is Park Villa on Ightenhill Park Lane. The congregation were making their way to a nearby field, which had been let to them by a local farmer for their field day.
