The Lancaster tailors was due to close in September 2012 after 140 years in business. The shop was originally located in Church Street and moved to New Street in 1923.

On 31st July the ww.itv.com/news website commented, "........69-year-old Stuart Fielding took over C E Barrow from the son of the original owner in 1970.

He said: "I would've retired at 65, but one of the ladies who worked with me had been here since she left school. I always said I'd never shut the shop while she wanted to work.

"She retired last year, so I decided to call it a day."

Charles Barrow opened the shop that has been clothing Lancastrians since 1870. Charles passed the shop down to his son Charlie, who sold the shop to Stuart."
