General notes
This image was loaned by Mrs M Sumner of the Lea Women's Institute in Preston in April 2012. Its shows a float for the cotton industry in the 1922 Preston Guild celebrations. Mrs Sumner's mother Annie Tipping was on the float dressed as a fairy. The wording on the float refers to the Great Magician "KOTON-EEN-DUSTREE" (Cotton Industry!). Annie was thrilled to be chosen to be part of the float. Mrs Sumner thinks that Annie was about 14 at the time and it's possible that she could have attended school for half a day and worked in the mill for the other half.
