By 1895 trams were travelling to St.Annes from Blackpool along Clifton Drive and extended through to Lytham the following year. The gas tram was converted to electric (as on the postcard) in 1904.
The black and white building, centre background is the Rossendale Hotel at the corner of Clifton Drive and Woodlands Road. On the opposite corner of Woodlands Road is the single-storey Wesleyan Methodist Church with steeple (replaced later by the present church).

The postcard is addressed to Miss Allechurch, Crumsworth, Upper Chorlton, Whalley Range, Manchester.
The message reads: "Dear A. I shall be glad to meet you on Sunday. I think it would be the best to meet at Weaste Lane. I am not sure what time I shall be in town. I have been expecting to hear from you, so you see we have both been expected. Hope you are well. love, I.L.V"
The postcard bears the orignal stamp and postmark, Walmersley, Oct.29.09.
