This illustration was used in a project to mark the Bi-Centenary of Charles Dickens birth in 2012. It's an image of Sairey Gamp from "Martin Chuzzlewit" which features in Kyd's "The characters of Charles Dickens pourtrayed in a series of original water colour sketches" published by Raphael Tuck in 1889. There is a copy of this book in the Harris Library in Preston. The image was printed with the quotation, "The face of Mrs. Gamp - the nose in particular - was somewhat red and swollen, and it was difficult to enjoy her society without becoming conscious of a smell of spirits."

KYD was the pseudonym of Joseph Clayton Clarke, 1856-1937.
