View of the now demolished Fox and Goose Inn on Wigan Road, at the bottom of Slack Brow opposite Brock's Firework factory. This public house replaced the original Fox and Goose at the junction of Church Road and Wigan Road. Ellis Warde and Co went into liquidation in 1955, assets transfered to Walkers Brewery, Warrington.
The former Inn sign read
"Near Skelmersdale stocks I espied a fox,
Pray catch it if you can,
For here we sell good ale and beer,
To every gentleman.
Since man to man is so unjust,
I have resolved no man to trust,
I've trusted many, to my sorrow,
So, pay today and trust tomorrow"
