"The market opened on 9th June 1848. It was designed by Reed of Liverpool as a single storey building in the Italianate style, and the iron gates were ordered from Musgrave and Lang of Bolton.

In 1868, a clock tower, surmounted by a bellcote and weather vane was added"

The war memorial is in front of the market hall.

This is one of a series of photographs which were taken on the same day in August 1966. Digital copies were donated at St Annes Library in 2010.
