General notes
"Pebbles had been used for centuries in the construction of buildings, yards , roads and walls. From the 1830s they were used as a decorative feature in pavements such as those in Bath Street, and in buildings such as the lifeboat house, custom house and hospital. Examples at St Anne's are the garden walls, North Promenade and the ornamental bridge on South Promenade."
