General notes
St. Annes Pier, original length 914 feet, was opened on 15 June 1885 by Col Fred Stanley, MP. Building costs had been £20,000.
In 1904, it was enlarged to include a Moorish-style pavilion to seat 1,000 people. In 1954, an amusement arcade was added to the pier's entrance, and in 1960 a restaurant was also built on the pier. Sadly, following refurbishment, the pavilion was destroyed by fire in 1974, and another serious blaze in 1982 saw the pier reduced in length to 600 feet.
Presumably due to the motion of the boat the lifeboat and crew are out of focus. A large crowd has gathered on the pier - we're not sure as yet what the occasion would have been.
