St Annes on Sea
Formerly St George's Gardens, Ashton Gardens were officialy opened on 1st July 1916. This plaque commemorates the opening.

"St George's Gardens were renamed Ashton Gardens in honour of the generous gift (to enable the purchase and development of the gardens) made by Lord Ashton. The driveway leading from the entrance (once used as a builders'' yard by the Porritt family) leads to the war memorial."

From "St Anne's on the Sea: a History" (2008) by Peter Shakeshaft (p.171)

The Ashton coat of arms appears above the plaque with the motto "Murus aeneus conscienta sana" ("A clear conscience is a wall of brass").

Fylde Borough Council obtained a lottery grant in 2006 to renovate the Gardens. This project was completed in 2010.
