General notes
St.Annes Pier, original length 914 feet, was opened in 1885, at a cost of 20,000 pounds. In 1904, it was enlarged to include a Moorish-style pavilion to seat 1,000 people. In 1954, an amusement arcade was added to the pier's entrance, and in 1960 a restaurant was also built on the pier. Sadly, following refurbishment, the pavilion was destroyed by fire in 1974, and another serious blaze in 1982 saw the pier reduced in length to 600 feet. The postcard is addressed to Mrs.Tyldesley, Worsley, Manchester. The message reads: "Dear Sally, It is lovely here today, nearly too hot to walk. Constance is enjoying herself. We went to the sands this morning. She came home on a donkey, it is a mile ride. We are resting in the garden this afternoon. Yours with love, Ada."
