General notes
Site of the Bull's Head, where a house now stands on the corner of School Lane and Brooklands Road. It is said that George Lyon (hanged in 1815 for a later crime) and his accomplices planned their robbery of the Liverpool mail coach at Tawd Bridge from the nearby Legs of Man pub, but returned to the Bull's Head so quickly that locals gave him an alibi. This crime gave him the reputation of a highwayman.
