General notes
A section of Summer Street which was once lined by miners' terraced houses and a few shops. The street can be traced from Manfield to a point near Tawd Vale High School from where it crossed the present Glenburn Road, to join Berry Street in Stormy Corner.

User Feedback: 'I just came across this Summer street image - I lived for about 10 years at Glenburn (the house) off Summer street - ~1953 - 1963/4 (I was away when my parents moved)
Of course the roads at Stormy Corner were hard surface, but going down to Glenburn involved cobbles at the first drop, then a tarmac gentler section followed by further cobbles on steeper section as far as the Tawd crossing. To bike to school in Ormskirk I used what was originally a railway line to ship coal to Skelmersdale main line, but also used to build the slag heaps extracted by the mining. The flatter part of that track to Skem would often reveal railway ties.
I have paintings of Stormy Corner, and the "Brickworks" back then. We had 5 acres of land around Glenburn so I knew the area in great detail!!' 21/11/2024.
