The demolition of the buildings at the top of Netherfield Road and Howarth Street.
The building in the background was the Temperance Model Lodging House (also known as Marlboro Hostel). It was build to give housing to single men, who came to work in the local Cotton Mills.
The movement aimed to eliminate the consumption of alcohol in Victorian Britain.
