General notes

For many years Nelson Corporation had been intent on redeveloping the town centre. By 1961 it owned enough land to do so.
In 1962 it adopted the Arndale Scheme. It involved premises for the Co-operative and District Bank who has premises on the site. In September 1965 work began by Messrs Bovis Limited.
