General notes
Born 07/03/1828, died 13/04/1903.
William Tunstill was the second son of Mr Henry Tunstill, who was the founder of the business that later developed into one of the largest cotton, spinning and manufacturing concerns in North East Lancashire.
On the death of his father, his elder brother and himself took over the business, which until then was known as Henry Tunstill and Sons but was later changed to Tunstill Bros.
His business interests covered Burnley, Brierfield, Nelson and Colne.
His Brierfield mills alone employed 1200 people, indeed the firm of Messrs Tunstill is said to have made Brierfield.
He also gave large amounts to the Wesleyan Chapels of Pendle.
