Construction of the railway viaduct in Burnley was completed in 1848. It is made up of 15 red brick arches, and each one has an 18.3m span.

In the foreground is the vancant land left by the demolition of the houses on Oak Mount Street. Beyond this, to the right, is Calder Vale Shed. The weaving shed has since been demolished, but the engine and boiler house along with the chimney remain and are grade II listed.
