General notes

The boating lake on the north side of the swimming pool was built during as part of a range of improvements to the promenade and foreshore in the 1930s.

It was originally next to the open air swimming pool and is now much reduced in size following the building of an indoor swimmimg pool in the 1980s and the new Lifeboat House which opened in 2000 both of which occupy some of the space of the original lake.

The swan in the foreground is one of a pair that were resident on the lake in 2010.
