Reported in Burnley Express 28/6/1913 p.11 and Burnley News, 44 cars of all makes, some private, some "Taxis", decorated with flags, containing 172 sick, (described at the time as "Crippled") children, drivers and helpers, left Burnley Cattle Market/Grimshaw St. on 26/6/1913 for a country run via Broughton Hall to Burnsall for lunch (catered by Mr. Berry of The Bull and Mrs. Blackhurst of The Red Lion), then another run ending in West Marton for tea, and home by 8.30, in procession, to cheers of bystanders, they were then given 2 apples, an orange, a banana and sweets,plus a free ticket to the Alhambra Picture Palance. All participants wore a red rose.
