From the Collection of photos donated by former teacher Mary Davenport re Burnley High School; Miss Louisa Jane Wood (1868-1940), Maths Tripos 1899, Cambridge, M.A. Dublin 1906; lecturer in Maths/English at Edge Hill Training College for 14 years, then Senior Assistant at Bolton Mixed Secondary School before becoming first ever Principal of Burnley High School in 1909. She was awarded the MBE for her service on various committees in WW1. She retired after 21 years as her wish to see a new school was not being realised. She returned to her native North East and died in Hexham, having been an invalid for some time after a stroke. ("Who was Who in Burnley" ed. Margaret Jones)
