General notes
The Manor House, Up Holland is a Grade II listed building (listed 1952). Dated 1718 (on the porch) it is thought to have originally been built by Christophe Pennington of Up Holland and was subsequently owned by the Glover family. When sold for redevelopment in the 1980s, the Manor House in was partially derelict, the upper two floors on one side had fallen in, along with most of the roof. The building was restored according to strict guidance from 1987 through to 1989, and involved reglazing the mullion windows in the exact same style, as well as rebuilding approximately 30% of the exterior and reconfiguring the 14 bedroomed interior. The two barns to either side of the Manor House were also converted into houses, and the six then-new houses were designed specifically to fit in with the Manor's original design, specifically the stone effect quoins complementing the brickwork. This was the first example of this design feature, which was replicated and made popular by larger builders throughout the 1990s.
