Taken from an article in The Rossendale Free Press: "For our current Jottings photograph we take a nostalgic look back at a once familiar scene in Rawtenstall. It is, of course, the view looking up Lord Street towards Bank Street. The houses, shops and offices have now disappeared swallowed up by the site of the shopping precinct. But the police station and courthouse on the right remains, although boarded up and derelict. In the course of the next year or two it is expected to be replaced by a modern station to serve the Valley sub-division".
