General notes
On 23rd May 1888 the Lifeboat Monument was unveiled in St Annes to commemorate the bravery of the crews of the Laura Janet Lifeboat (the entire crew were lost) and the Eliza Fernley (2 crewman perished). Twenty-seven crewmen in all perished in the attempt to rescue the stricken barque, "Mexico of Hamburg" on December 9th, 1886. The postcard is addressed to Miss White, Grays, Essex. The message reads: "Dear Lizzie, I came to B'pool last night. Am now in St.Annes. Going home tomorrow evening. Hope you're having a good time. Love to you and all at Chadwell. Yours, Mary"
