S. Oldfield
Originally St Annes Ladies College, the school was......" .... founded by the Misses Frances & Lilly Oldfield about 1882 in Middlewich, Cheshire, it became established in 1886 when it moved to Newton Hall. In 1888, it made the 50-mile move to St.Annes.

At one stage, housed at Claremont, South Promenade, it is listed as being in St.Annes Road West ...... in 1895. A purpose-built school was erected on Clifton Drive c1898 .... and it was named St.Annes College for Girls. It is the only one of the private schools which still exists (in St Annes)"

From the www.amounderness.co.uk web site 16/08/2011.

Although built c.1898 the school was actually opened in 1902. The 1911 Census shows that May Frances and Eliza (presumably Lilly) Annie Oldfield were the joint heads of the school. Boarders came from across the country but principally Lancashire, Yorkshire and Cheshire.

This photograph was on display in the school in 2011. Presumably Miss S Oldfield is a relation of Eliza and Lilly Oldfield who founded the school. The dates underneath her name are 1913-1922.
