The Co-operative Quality store and District Bank (later National Westminster Bank).
These were the first units to open in the Arndale (5th Oct 1967)
The original Co-op store was on the same site as the Quality House and the Co-op was a key investor in the construction of the Arndale Centre.
The Co-op pulled out of Nelson in 1991 due to falling number of customers and high rents had already left half the units empty.
Soon after the centre was modernised and an extension was built on where Railway Street runs, but the big store did not return and the new unit were not all filled.
