Richard Broughton. Born 26th March 1846, died 6 March 1927. Well known man in the town. Started his career in the legal profession in 1859 aged 13. Became Magistrates' Clerk in1880 and held the position for 45 years. Played a very prominent part in the public work of the town including the Accrington Choral Society, President of the Mechanics Institute. Interested in local history and author of "The Old Corn Mill"
