General notes
Ex P.C. David E. Woodhead left, and Ex Sergeant Henry Baron right, represent the development of the Police Force from the days of the old constable, to present time. This was one of the entries in the Jubilee procession of July 1928, to commemorate the Incorporation of the Borough.
Accrington was served in its early 19th century days by Joe Booth, the only constable, later superceded by the county Police, and the Borough Police Force on January 1st 1882. This picture depicts a constable of 1828 in an appropriate old Peelers uniform, and a modern policeman
