Abbey Street took its name from Black Abbey and was one of the principle thoroughfares of the town as well as being for decades the street where the market and fairs were held.

1) Oak Tree Hotel, built 1825 demolished 1925-30
2) "Th'Owd Fent Shop" once occupied by Richard Crawshaw a fent dealer by trade who contributed pieces to the Accrington Times between 1867 and 1874.Crawshaw called himself "Fent Dick" and was best known for "T'Belthorn Charity" a dialect poem of great popularity
3) The house of Billy Beasley rush-bottom chair mender and local chartist leader
4) Briggs Entry leading to Briggs Yard where the local Co-operative movement was started in the meeting room of the Accrington Weavers Society in 1859
5) The "Truck Stop" of Langs grocers and calico manufacturers, who paid mostly in goods the handloom weavers they employed in the early 19th century
6) New Jerusalem Church built 1849
7) The Swan Inn built 1825
8) The Hargreaves Arms built 1835
