General notes
This farmstead stands off Sandy Lane on the left, halfway between New House Farm and Spire Farm. The Birtwistle family lived here in the 17th Century, one of whom was architect for St James' Church in the year 1763. This family held the office of Constable of Accrington, previous to the appointment of Joe Booth in 1828. Later, the Walmsleys occupied the farm, which has been entirely re-built, and all traces of the original building destroyed. There is a date over the door, and initials of the builder of the present farm, which are probably those of the Royds, the owners.
