General notes
This building was erected on part of Woolhurst Bank, from which the name is derived. It was built by Robert Hargreaves, of the firm of Hargreaves Bros., of Broad Oak printworks. He was the first chairman of the Accrington Local Board, and father of Mrs Robertson Aikman, whose fine and generous donations to Oak Hill museum were much appreciated. Later residents at Bank House was Greens, Briggs, Bury, and by Alderman T E Higham, Mayor of Accrington, 1928. It was in the Italian style of architecture, with well wooded grounds, and with a southerly aspect. In the foreground is the bowling green of Grafton Memorial Club, Broad Oak Printworks.
