General notes
The children's choir won first prize at the Llangollen Eisteddfod in 1957. The conductor was Mr Ted Parr who retired in 2000 after 48 years with the choir. The Hall was built in 1904 by the Nelson and District weaver's Association as the Weavers Institute and Assembly Hall. It was later taken over by Pendle Council and named after Sidney Silverman, the prominent campaigner for the abolition of capital punishment, who was MP for Nelson and Colne from 1935 to 1968. In 2008 the hall was sold to the trustees of the Ghosia Mosque as a community and educational centre.
