General notes
Bank Hall Colliery from the Leeds and Liverpool Canal. Behind the angler lies Thompson Park. Bank Hall colliery opened in 1865. The colliery became the largest in Burnley and in 1914 a fourth shaft was sunk which at 1500 feet was the deepest in the Burnley coalfield.
The decision to close the pit was made in 1971.
