The realignment of Clitheroe Road was part of the works associated with the construction of the M65 motorway. Work began on this section in March 1978 and it was opened to traffic in October 1981. A preliminary to the construction of the new road was the demolition (1978) of Higher Chamber Hill Farm dating from 1667 which was at the time Brierfield's oldest building.
