James Herns, also known as Jimmy Cooney, in the 1900's. He used to live in 1 Brunswick Road, Morecambe (1910). His obituary, published in the Visitor on 9 March 1932 headed "Jimmy Cooney's Adventurous Life," says he had been a valet, a circus clown, a sailor, a boxer, and an entertainer. He settled in Morecambe around 1902, and after the war was a commissionaire outside the town's Royalty Theatre. He had a son and daughter.
