The Waterfall, Ashton Gardens
St Annes on Sea
In January 1914 Lord Ashton made a donation of £22,000 to the town and St.George's Gardens were renamed Ashton Gardens. After World War One the War Memorial was erected, again through the generosity of Lord Ashton. Asthon Theatre is only just visible in the centre of the postcard. In 1977 The Ashton Pavilion Theatre burnt to the ground and was not rebuilt. Re-development of Ashton Gardens began in 2009. The postcard is addressed to Miss E.Tatham. The message reads: "Just to wish you all the compliments of the season & thanks for the photo which we think very good & the painting very pretty. tell Mother will write her in a day or two love from all at St.Annes"
