Edward Pereles
Three Jewish boys from Czechoslovakia who were taken in by the headmistress of Burnley Open Air School, Miss Ruby McKay.

Miss McKay went to Europe on an International Friendship Holiday. Here she met the parents of Edward (left) who were anxious about the threat posed by the Nazis. Ruby volunteered to take some children to Britain as a means of escape and adopt Edward if nesccessary. All of Edward's family died in Nazi concentration camps during the war, whilst he was safe in Britain.
