Coun. Arthur William Gorton who, as an apprentice to the founder, printed the first copy of the "Visitor" on a hand press and was Editor-Proprietor from 1882 to 1897. Since then, Mr Gorton has devoted himself to public work, having been a member of the Town Council for 34 years and Chairman of the Education Committee for 35 years, and was twice Mayor, in 1925-6 and 1926-7.
