The Church was opened by the Bishop of manchester on the 15 June 1899. The Rev W A Kent was at the church from his institution on the 8 Dec 1906 until his death on the 12 August 1910. The last service in the 'iron church' was on the 12 January 1912 as a new stone church was built for the congregation.
