12 Winckley Square was once the home of John Humber, cotton manufacturer, but about 1910, when it became the headquarters of the Royal Lancashire Agricultural Society, it was known as Derby House, because Lord Derby was president of the Society. The building was demolished in 1964 and the site sold to the London Assurance Company Limited, who built an office block on the site.
